- Adjective-
describes or modifies a noun or pronoun.
- Modify-
means to tell more about.
- Adjectives
answer one of three questions: a.What kind? (She spotted
a huge monster. Huge tells what kind of.)
b.How many? (Six ice cream cones, please. Six tells
how many.) c.Which one(s)? (I'll take that dress. That
tells which one.)
- Adjectives
often come BEFORE the nouns they describe, BUT can also
FOLLOW the nouns they describe.
- Common
Adjectives- describe nouns in a general way. They
tell just about anything- size, shape, number, color,
design, character, etc. (The big dog growled at me. Big
is the adjecive that describes dog.)
- Proper
Adjectives- are formed from proper nouns. They are
ALWAYS capitalized! (She is a Hollywood actress. Hollywood
is the proper adjective that describes the actress.)
- Articles- are special
adjectives that describe nouns or pronouns. They are A,
AN, THE.
- Predicate
Adjective- describses the subject of the sentence and
follows a linking verb.
- Predicate
Adjectives- are LINKED to the subject by a linking
verb.
- Demonstrative
Adjectives- go with nouns
and answer the question WHICH ONE?
(These cookies taste great. These is the
demonstrative adjective.)
