Plural Rules

 

  1. Most nouns to make a plural you add s.

  2. If a noun ends with s, sh, ch, x, or zadd es  to make the word plural.

  3. If a word ends with a vowel-y  add s.(toy-toys)

  4. If a word ends with a consonant –y-Change the y to i and add es.

  5. Some words have special words for their plural.(man-men)

  6. If a word ends in f or fe  change the f or fe to v and add es.(Knife-knives)

  7. If a word ends with o add s. (except tomatoes, potatoes, or heroes)

  8. Some special words stay the same.(deer-deer, moose-moose)

 

 

 

Possessive Rules

A possessive noun shows ownership.  To form the possessive of a singular noun, add an apostrophe and s. (man’s, cat’s)

To form the possessive of a plural noun that ends in s, add an apostrophe after the s. (ladies-ladies’,players-players’)

To form the possessive of a plural noun that does not end s – add an apostrophe and s.  ( children’s, mice’s)
