Reading is the key to success!!

Reading: Reading is very important. Reading is in everything you do, so we will be doing lots of work in reading. Each week we will work on a story out of our basal reader. We will work on vocabulary words that go with our stories. We will also work on other vocabulary words each week. Your child will be required to study and learn 12 vocabulary words each week other than the vocabulary words that go along with our stories that we read. Your child will have a vocabulary test on all words at the end of each week. The test will also include comprehension questions from the story of the week.

Each child will also have a reading log sheet that will be graded on Fridays and returned on Monday. The reading log sheet will be for a grade each week. Students will be required to read at least 20 minutes twice a week. Parents will sign the reading log sheet each week and students will turn the sheet in on Friday. I will grade the sheets and return them on Monday.

You will be required to keep a reading notebook throughout the year. In the notebook you will define all of the vocabulary words from each reading story as well as any other necessary reading material. All words and information that you are required to have in your notebook will be on the board in the classroom or in your reading book. The notebooks will be graded every two weeks.

Responsibility is very important in fourth grade. We hope to mold your child into becoming very responsible students. It is very important that every student comes to school prepared to work and have all work completed on time.
