Text Box: Pre-Kindergarten Program Goals The purpose of the Voluntary Pre-K for Tennessee initiative is to provide Tennessee’s four-year-old children an opportunity to develop school readiness skills in an environment that fosters the love and joy of learning and promotes success in kindergarten and throughout the child’s life. The pre-kindergarten program strives to provide appropriate learning activities and experiences that will help prepare your child for the first years of school. Pre-k also focuses on helping your child form good habits and daily routines that will help him/her become independent and enthusiastic learners. Family Involvement Family participation is important in your child’s attitude about learning. Throughout the year, there will be several opportunities for parents to visit with their children at school. The teacher will also send home activities for parents and children to complete together. If a parent wishes, the teacher will make home visits to discuss the progress the child is making in school. The teacher will also discuss the areas in which the child needs to improve in order to be ready for school. Parents are also welcome in the classroom at any time. Volunteers are appreciated! If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact your child’s teacher. Please understand that your child’s education is most important and for that reason we ask that you please call before or after school, or leave a message and we will return your call as soon a possible.

Classroom Setting

The pre-kindergarten classroom will be set up in learning centers that will include:  art, science, math/manipulative, pre-reading/language, blocks, and dramatic play.

 

The teaching style will be child centered which will allow students to have hands-on experiences by using a variety of methods.  The students will participate in various activities, such as art, science experiments, and other projects that will be designed to make learning fun!

 

The curriculum used in the classroom is the Creative Curriculum/teacher designed lesson plans.  This curriculum covers many basic language and math concepts that will help prepare your child for kindergarten.
