CLASSROOM RULES

¡Bienvenidos!  Welcome to Spanish II.  I am glad to have you in my class this year.  I hope it will be an interesting and productive year.  Below you will find a short list of rules to live by in my classroom.

1. BE ON TIME to class and arrive with all the necessary materials.  That includes your textbook, 3-ring notebook (with dividers), loose-leaf paper, a pencil or pen (not red) and journal.  When you leave the classroom, be sure to take all of your materials with you.

2. NO FOOD OR DRINK (EXCEPT WATER) is to be brought into the classroom.  The only exception is a class activity (planned by me) that involves food.

3. NO GUM CHEWING.  Be sure to dispose of gum in the wastebaskets as you enter.

4. UNDERSTAND THE POLICY FOR MAKEUP WORK in your Student Handbook.  YOU are responsible for getting your work, and for each day absent you will be given I day to makeup the work missed.  There is no makeup work for unexcused absences.  Classwork will be made up on your own time and turned in by the appropriate deadline. Tests, quizzes, and listening exercises MUST be made up during the lunch hour. These dates will be posted as needed. Failure to make up work by the deadlines set will result in a grade of ZERO for that assignment. Being out of class for a scheduled school activity does not excuse you from makeup work--the same rules and deadlines apply.

5. Be in compliance with the DRESS CODE. Violations of dress code will be referred to the administration.

6. Turn in work ON TIME.  Classwork that you cannot complete during the period may be completed for homework, but MUST BE TURNED IN the next time the class meets.  Assignments not turned in BY THE START OF the next class meeting will lose 50 points, but may be turned in as late work BEFORE THE NEXT DAY'S CLASS BEGINS. After the start of the 2nd class meeting, the grade for that assignment will be ZERO. Emergency situations will be handled on an individual basis.

GRADING POLICY

All assignments in this class are graded on the basis of 100 being a perfect score.  Bonus points may be earned on tests and quizzes, up to a maximum grade of 105.

Six-weeks grades will be calculated according to the following formula:

 Test average  = 35%

 Quiz average  = 25%

 Daily average = 25%

 Listening/Oral = 15%

     Total = 100%

Test average includes tests, notebook grade, and any projects that are assigned in a 6-week grading period.

Daily average includes class work and homework during the 6-weeks.

Listening /Oral average includes listening/video exercises, reading aloud or reciting in Spanish, and conversational exercises.

Semester averages are calculated as follows:

If a student is exempt from the semester exam, the three 6-weeks grades will be averaged to obtain the semester average.

If the student is required to take the semester exam, each 6-weeks grade is counted twice, the semester exam grade is counted once, and this set of 7 numbers is averaged to obtain the semester average.

Students are exempt from the semester exam if they have missed no more than 3 days.  School-sponsored activities, such as field trips, athletic competitions, etc. are not counted as absences.
