How to be Successful at RCHS
1. Take advantage of lunch tutoring. We have an hour long lunch, but we all know it does not take an hour to eat lunch. If you have questions or are struggling in your classes, go to your teachers at lunch. You will find most of them in their classrooms eager to help you. You do not have to spend your whole lunch in the classroom. You only need to spend the amount of time you need. Socializing will be there afterwards.
2. Save the drama for after school. I always ask my students, "Will it matter in five years?" If the answer is no, do not waste your time now worrying about it. High school will go by so fast. Do not miss out on wonderful memories and experiences worrying about what so and so said or did.
3. Teachers are not scary. Our teachers are here to help you become successful. We all need people in our lives that push, challenge, and discipline us so that we can be our best. Our teachers are full of information. It is your job to tap into that information. Ask questions, do your homework, pay attention, and participate and you will find that the teachers are some of your biggest supporters.
4. Don't forget your counselor. I am going to try my hardest to ensure that you are not able to say "I don't know who my counselor is." I ask that you do your part to help ensure you know who I am. The easiest way is to schedule appointments to see me. Please come see me if you are having a good day, a bad day, or just a day. If you have questions regarding your schedule, your grades, or your future, my office door is open. I am here for your needs.
5. Have the right attitude. High school will either be the best or the worst years of your life depending on what attitude you have. If you have an "I don't care," "I don't know," or "I can't" attitude, you are setting yourself up for four very long and hard years. I highly recommend you arrive at school each day with an "I am successful," "I will do this," and "I am smart" attitude to ensure four fun and wonderful years.
