FRESHMAN ENGLISH

Honors

Welcome to Rhea County High School!

For ninth-grade English you will need the following supplies:

a 3-ring notebook

white, loose-leaf paper (with 3 holes)

blue or black ink pens--I do not allow my students to submit papers in pencil, except for scantron tests

notebook dividers--5

This first semester you will be studying short stories and the Odyssey, writing papers, and making oral presentations.

For the second semester you will need your own copy of the novel Animal Farm, by George Orwell.

Thursday, August 6

I went over the above information and gave a homework assignment that is due at the beginning of class on Monday. Do not turn in the worksheet, just your answers. Write in pen and write neatly. Those of you who were absent need to see me at the end of class (or beginning if there is time) on Monday and get a make-up assignment.

Parents--Access to grades online will not begin until the second semester--sorry. Your child will be encouraged to keep track of his/her own grades, but if you want to know what his/her average is, just email me and I will get it back to you. Please give me a couple of weeks to have enough grades to average. Also, I forgot to tell you on Thursday that I keep a "Make-up Work" book on the back table in my classroom. Each day I write in that book what we did, if I gave a homework assignment, and when that assignment (or test) is due. If your child misses my class for any reason, he/she is to look in that book and copy the make-up work for that particular day.
