Sophomores

Welcome to Sophomore English! I am looking forward to having a great year at Rhea County High School. I am glad that you were able to find this page, as it will let you know what goes on in this class every day. I will soon begin listing for each day what we did in class and what assignments I plan to take up, and I hope to have it at least a week in advance so that you know what is due when.

You will need the following items:

Monday--pronouns in compound construction worksheet

Tuesday--pronouns as predicate nominatives

Wednesday--review subject and object pronouns--3 worksheets

Thursday--indefinite pronouns; pronouns in an incomplete construction--2 worksheets

Friday--finish defining literary terms

Week of September 5-9

Monday--Labor Day--no school

Tuesday--issue books; go over literary terms

Wednesday--define words from "Contents of the Dead Man's Pockets"

Week of September 12-16

Monday--quiz over "Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket"; assignment--write a dialogue between Tom and Clare after he finds Clare at the movies or draw a picture of Tom outside on the ledge

Tuesday--quiz # 2 over the story; work on dialogue or drawing

Wednesday--took up dialogues or drawings; returned papers; correct Dictation # 1; went over analogy exercise

Thursday--go over vocabulary from "Contents of the Dead Man's Pocket"; written assignment: discuss epiphany and symbolism in the story

Friday--quiz over the next story; if your parents read this and email me, I will add 20 points to the score of this quiz

Monday--quiz over "Two Friends" and discussion

Tuesday--video; Announcements: (1)Have the next story read by Thursday (quiz) (2) Test over the first ten literary terms on Monday; this grade will count three times and will be on the first six weeks

Wednesday--finish video

Wednesday--write a letter of introduction for your partner, who is moving to another city

Friday--Read "A Visit to Grandmother's" aloud in class, no quiz

Tuesday--make sure you have turned in corrections for the Letter of Introduction and Dictation # 2; correct Dictation # 3 and have it in your notebook; practiced writing an introduction
