Grade Level Objectives and Projects

Most of these are last year's projects. New ones are being added.

 

Kindergarten

      Objective: Students reviewed the sound for Mm, named objects that begin with the M sound, reviewed other initial sounds, learned about texture rubbings, backgrounds and horizon lines; created a background for their magnificient monsters (texture rubbing of the bottom of their shoe.) This is their first project this year.

Jr. Primary

    Project No. 1-Objective: Students learned about the creator of Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls and books, reviewed placement of facial features and the term "collage" (learned last year), created a portrait collage of Raggedy Ann or Andy.

1st Grade

    Project No. 1-Objective: Students reviewed the colors of fall, discussed the definition of autumn and fall, reviewed the 4 kinds of lines, learned the process of paper weaving, created a fall scene using drawing, cutting, and weaving.

    Project No. 2-Objective: Students were presented with a variety of pictures of flowers, were given a brief demonstration and discussion of ways to use their own hands, fingers, and sponges for printmaking; experienced cooperative learning when moving from table to table for each color, created their own beautiful work of art using printmaking.

2nd Grade

    Objective: Students reviewed the 4 kinds of lines, learned about contour drawing using lines, discussed negative space, overlapping, perspective, reflections and reflective surfaces, three-dimensional works of art; created a drawing of fall trees with reflections.

3rd Grade

    Project No. 1 - Objective: Students created pictures combining observation and imagination, learned to distinguish between foreground, middle ground, and background; demonstrated knowledge of perspective through size and overlapping, demonstrated a controlled use of watercolor.

    Project No. 2 - Objective: Students learned the simple method of tempera blots as a painting technique, discussed differences in shapes of flower vases, pots, urns, etc.; reviewed the term "symmetry", created a "masterpiece" using tempera blots, drawing, and painting.

 

4th Grade

    Project No. 1 - Objective: Drawing: Being Creative Students learn that creative artists often develop many and varied ideas for artwork; review the meaning of the term sketch; create several very different sketches of one object.

    Project No. 2 - Objective: Students were told about--and shown samples of--the metal tooling (repousse) process, created their own design on paper, then transferred it to copper before the copper tooling began, continued the design out onto the mat creating a continuity of design.

Creative Artists

5th Grade

    Objective: Self-Portraits--This project was done by 5th graders from the 2006-2007 school year.
