Personal and Professional Information

My name is Fran Durham. I am married to Charles Durham.  I have 2 grown sons, 1 stepson, and 2 grandsons. Although I have lived most of my life in the Chattanooga area, I’m pleased to currently be living in my new home in Spring City.

I am a veteran educator of 29+ years.  I began my teaching career tutoring elementary school aged non-readers in an economically disadvantaged area of Chattanooga. At the Dade County Schools in Trenton, Georgia, my first classroom experience was as a Kindergarten teacher for 5 years.  Then I taught third grade for 5 years and 1st grade for 10 years. My next step was to leave the classroom to serve as a Literacy Coach at Rossville and Summerville Elementary Schools in Georgia.

After working for 3 years as a Literacy Coach, I returned to the classroom, teaching first and second grades in Douglas County, Georgia.  In May of 2007, I retired, but only for two months.  This is the third year I've been working here at Spring City Elementary School and loving it!

My credentials include a B.S. in Elementary and Early Childhood Education, as well as a M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga; a Ed.S. from Berry College in Educational Leadership; an Administration and Supervision endorsement from the State University of West Georgia and a Reading Specialist endorsement from Georgia Southern University. In Georgia, I hold endorsements for teaching Gifted as well.
