Change in pick-up for child

Students may be picked-up from school in several different ways. If for any reason your child’s regular schedule is changed, please write a note or call the school to inform us of the changes.  If you have called and left a message and you have not received a return phone call from me by 2:00, please call the office to confirm.  It is my desire to know each child is safely getting to their after school location.

Daily/Friday Folders/Backpacks

Folders will be sent home daily with information and various homework assignments. Students will be expected to have this folder everyday.  Begin the year with a routine of checking your child’s folder each night.  A calendar will be posted within the folder.  Each day students will color in the days box that matches their behavior for the day.  For example, if your child does not have to move their “clip” they will be able to color the day’s box green.  (They had a great day)  On the other hand, if your child has had a slip up or two they will color their box yellow or red.  This gives you a daily report on your child’s behavior performance.  (Please note that at the beginning of the year I will be enforcing rules heavily. This set expectations for the desired classroom behavior. This folder is your child’s responsibility.  The best way to support this responsibility is by providing your child with a backpack (no wheels, please) and helping them learn the responsibility of bringing it to school on a daily basis.

Newsletter

Communication between teacher and parent is a key ingredient in a successful school year.  A newsletter covering our classroom activities will be apart of Friday’s folder.  It is every parent’s responsibility to read each newsletter.  The newsletter will identify the upcoming story, skills, and activities for the week.  PLEASE make sure to read the newsletter weekly!!   ****The newsletter will also be updated weekly on my classroom website***

Parent Volunteers

Parent volunteers are very important to the success of our classroom.  If you are interested in helping in the classroom please let me know right away.  With more support we will be able to extend the amount of activities and projects for students. All volunteers must also sign up in the office.

Accelerated Reader

We use the Accelerated Reader program at Spring City Elementary.  The program offers test on an array of books.  Students simply read A.R. book and then take a test of 5 to 10 questions on the computer.  Students will have books to read as well as books we will read within the classroom. Students will take test on them afterwards.  It is highly encouraged for you to read with your child on an individual basis.  Rewards for reading are given through point clubs and school wide activities.  Rewards will also be given within the classroom.

Money

Lunch money should be sent in on Monday of every week.  Students will have a plastic bag or envelope attached to their folder.  Please make sure it is sealed and clearly labeled with what money is for.

Book Clubs

I will be sending home Scholastic Book Club forms occasionally.  Students enjoy receiving and reading books of their own.  It is up to you to purchase books or not.  The club is a good way to purchase books at a discount price. If you decide to order books, please return the form and money by the date assigned.

Lunch Number

Each child will be assigned a number from the cafeteria.  It is important that your child learn their number in the first few weeks of school. We will help them during the beginning.  Your child’s number will be sent home on the first day.

School Parties

Our classroom has two planned parties; Christmas and Valentine’s Day.  However, I feel that birthdays are one of the most important days of their life.  If you would like, we allow parents to send cupcakes or some type of snack for the class.  (ALL SNACKS MUST BE STORE BOUGHT)  If you wish to do so, please let me know at least one day in advance so I can plan a specific time to celebrate.  If your child’s birthday is during the summer, I will set aside a day in May for a pretend birthday.

****Please be mindful of any food allergies later noted****
