Lady Bulldogs rally late and pull out victory in overtime over Bledsoe

In their first home contest of the season the Lady Bulldogs (4-3, 2-0) made it a memorable one, battling back from a 12 point defecit to start the fourth quarter to force overtime and came out victorious 35-30. The Lady Bulldogs cold shooting in the first half struck again as they could only muster six first half points.

In the first quarter Bledsoe took advantage of the Lady Bulldogs offensive woes and raced out to an 11-4 lead.

The Lady Bulldogs clamped down in the second quarter on defense but still lost the quarter 3-2, with the only points of the quarter being two free throws by Katie Loden to trail at halftime 14-6.

In the third quarter the Lady Warriors put some separation between themselves and the Lady Bulldogs winning the quarter 12-8 to take a twelve point lead 26-14 heading into the fourth.

In the fourth, the Lady Bulldogs caught fire from the field led by Morgan Owensby with 5 points in the frame followed by Loden with 4, and buckets by Hannah Dye, Julie Brown, and a free throw by Amber Boyd. The Lady Bulldog pressing defense stymied the Lady Warriors holding them to one field goal and forcing overtime. The Lady Warriors had the chance to ice the game in the fourth with free throws, but went 0 for 5 from the charity stripe in the frame which ended with both teams knotted up at 28 apiece.

In overtime the Lady Bulldogs defense went to work again, and a three pointer from the top of the key by Owensby put the Lady Bulldogs up for good 31-28 with just over two minutes to go in overtime. Two clutch free throws by Loden and Brown put the game on ice late in the overtime session sealing the dramatic victory for the Lady Bulldogs.

Owensby led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 12 points followed by a double-double for Brown who had 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Loden tallied 8 points and 6 rebounds.

Next action for the Lady Bulldogs will be on Nov. 30th when they travel to Madisonville. Tip off time is scheduled for 6pm.

 

 

Starters sit entire second half as Bulldogs dominate Bledsoe Co.

The Bulldogs (5-2, 2-0) pressing defense and hot shooting in the first half helped them cruise to a 26 point victory over the Warriors 52-26, matching thier win total for all of last year in seven games this season.

In the first quarter, the Bulldogs came out in thier press and forced numerous turnovers which led to easy baskets and a 14-0 lead before the Warriors dented the scoreboard and led 16-4 by the end of the quarter. Macay Hedrick and Dylan Pritchett led the Bulldogs with 7 and 5 points respectively in the stanza.

In the second quarter it was more of the same as the Bulldogs shot numerous layups on Warrior turnovers which led to a season high 20 points in the quarter. Taylor Jenkins led the charge with 8 points in the frame followed by Pritchett and Hedrick with 6 each. The Warriors could only muster three field goals in the first half as the Bulldogs took a 36-12 lead into the locker room.

The second half began with all but one starter on the bench for the Bulldogs with many reserves filtered in throughout the quarter and the rest of the game. The Bulldogs won the quarter 6-4 on a field goal by Brad McClure and two free throws each by J. J. Eaton and Gage Barger to lead 42-16.

The fourth quarter ended in a 10 all tie between the two teams as they played thier younger players to finish out the game. Storm Hull and Jake Loden buried a three pointer apiece while McClure and sixth grader Tyler Pendleton each scored a bucket to round out the scoring in the game.

Hedrick led the Bulldogs with his first double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds, followed by Pritchett with 11 points, and Jenkins with 10.

The next action for the Bulldogs will be on Nov. 30th as they travel to Madisonville. Tip off is set for 7pm.
