ASSIGNMENT/AGENDA BOOKS: You will be using an assignment notebook this year. We will monitor the entries in the assignment book daily for the first few months. Please look through the asssignment book carefully each night. Your science assignment will also be posted on this web site for you to view daily. The assignment notebook will be used throughout middle school. It will help keep you organized and prepared.
SUPPLIES: Please make sure you have all your supplies (pencils, crayons, 1 inch binder notebook, book, workbook, glue) with you each day. It is difficult to complete activities and projects if you do not have your supplies.
The Sixth Grade State Curriculum Standards that we will be working on this first and second six weeks are: recognize how animals and plants are interdependent, distinguish between commensalism, parasitism, and mutualism, investigate how organisms may be affected by environmental factors, examine and describe the relationships among plants and animals within a specific environment, use several scenarios to distinguish between predators and prey, describe the niche and habitat of an organism within an ecosystem, identify how organisms obtain food for energy, classify organisms as producers, consumers, or decomposers in a food chain, recognize the kinds of organisms that form the base of a food chain, observe and describe how various organisms obtain and use food, classify the trophic level of an organism, describe the feeding relationships between organisms that form a food chain. We will be adding fossil study, geologic ages, determining how environmental changes can affect the survival of organisms.
